The University of Notre Dame ( is accepting applications for a Learning Designer. Applications will be accepted until 3/1/2019.

The University of Notre Dame's Office of Digital Learning is seeking an experienced and creative learning designer. The initial assignment for this position will be to support the university's online graduate degree in Data Science, working as part of collaborative teams to design, maintain, and operate the program's integrated learning experience (online courseware and learning systems).

The designer will work closely with the Data Science program director, faculty, and support team to design, evaluate and revise, and maintain the catalog of program courses to reflect the program's identity and learning goals. The designer will ensure a continuing standard of excellence in the program and courseware, and lead the course improvement process as needed to match industry trends and curricular needs. The designer will lead the process of designing new digital assets and courses as needed; in this capacity, demonstrated design experience working affirmatively with faculty, other team members, and within defined project parameters is essential. We are interested in candidates with experience in technical or quantitative subjects, with narrative and multimedia storytelling, and/or with managing copyright/intellectual property considerations.

Finally, the designer will have significant responsibility for ensuring the quality of the program's learning infrastructure, including maintaining system and software integrations, learning databases, and other required infrastructure necessary to support the program's curricular needs and learning goals.

Minimum Qualifications:

 Bachelor’s degree

  •  3-5 years of experience as a professional learning designer, or in a closely related field
  •  Demonstrated experience in learning design and with learning technologies
  •  Demonstrated experience with authoring software and learning platforms (including experience with at least one LMS at the advanced level)
  •  Meticulous attention to detail, as applied to technical systems as well as communication/writing
  •  Demonstrated experience with online course development

Preferred Qualifications:

  •  MA degree or higher in instructional design, educational technology or similar
  •  Design and/or production in visual, narrative and multimedia design
  •  Design, production, or industry experience with data science, computing, statistics, or other quantitative fields
  •  Project management experience in a higher education context
  •  Basic HTML programming knowledge
  •  Experience using Articulate 360 Storyline, Adobe Captivate, or similar; Open edX platform; virtual laboratory environments, such as Amazon AWS ; interactive programming environments, such as Jupyter Notebooks, Anacondas, etc.
